Honey Island Range Rules

1. The range may be opened or closed only by the Range Master or an approved representative. The Range Master is the senior person on the field and is in full command of all range operations whenever he is present on the field. His commands must be followed immediately. The Range Master is in command of all field operations unless relieved by one of the four officers (President, Vice President, Secretary, or Treasurer).

   The Senior Range Officer of the Day will assume all duties and responsibilities of the Range Master when the Range Master is not present on the field. This Position will be assumed by one of the Club Officers or one of the Board of Directors if present.

   The Range Officer is in complete charge of his station in accordance with the rules and procedures as set forth by the Board of Directors and the Range Master. The Range Officer may order any shooter off the range for safety violations or conduct unacceptable (including language) to other users.

2. Hours of operation change with Day Light Savings Time:

   	Winter	Summer
   Friday	11:00 am - 4:00 pm	1:00 pm - 6:00 pm
   Saturday	8:00 am - 4:00 pm	8:00 am - 6:00 pm
   Sunday	8:00 am - 4:00 pm	8:00 am - 6:00 pm

3. All posted and non-posted range rules and commands must be obeyed. Failure to do so will result in immediate dismissal from the range and possible loss of range privileges.
4. No alcoholic beverages of any type or illegal drugs are permitted on the range. Intoxicated persons, anyone suspected of being intoxicated, or anyone recently drinking will not be allowed on the range.
5. Eye and ear protection are required for anyone to enter the front gate. Everyone is required to have their own pair of eye and ear protection. Anyone within 30 feet of a "HOT" firing line will have their protection in place at all times. Removing glasses or hearing protection for cleaning or using a spotting scope is NOT permitted.
6. All firearms must be kept unloaded with actions open until the shooter is physically on the firing point, the Range Officer has called "RANGE HOT," and you are ready to fire that firearm.
7. Never go down range during a cease fire until the Range Officer gives the command, "THE RANGE IS COLD."
8. NEVER HANDLE (touch, fondle, adjust, clean, case or adjust scope / sight) anything on any firearm while the range is "COLD."
9. Always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction.
10. Never carry a firearm down range with you.
11. Practice safety yourself and call attention to unsafe acts of others. Remember: anyone on the range may call a "CEASE FIRE."
12. Any malfunction of a firearm MUST be reported IMMEDIATELY to the Range Officer.
13. The adult bringing a child to the range is TOTALLY RESPONSIBLE for the child's conduct and safety. No one under 16 is permitted on the range unless under the supervision of an adult.
14. Each shooter must check in at the gate, read the range rules, and sign in. The Range Officer will check all firearms to ensure that they are unloaded and that everyone has eye and ear protection.
15. Prior to proceeding to the rifle or pistol line the Range Officer at the gate will receive permission from the Line Officer for you to proceed. The shooter will be assigned a station by the Line Officer and be briefly instructed on the current conditions and any special range rules that may be in effect.
16. Only paper targets on SELFS, Inc. stands, clay birds (placed midway up on the face of the berm), or those targets specifically approved by the Range Master may be used.

    Forbidden targets include, but are not limited to the following:

    1. Animals and birds.
    2. Cans, bottles, glass, ice, and balloons.
    3. Fruits and vegetables.
    4. Pictures or cartoons representing a certain person or a certain group of people.

     

17. No cross lane firing!
18. Pistol Range Plates: The two large plate racks (falling) are for traditional pistol calibers only. The small plates are for .22 Long Rifle rim fire ammunition only.
19. The shooter must clear his area of brass, targets, and other trash when finished shooting. Brass not wanted by the shooter must be placed in brass containers provided. Any brass not claimed by the shooter firing the brass automatically becomes the property of the SELFS, Inc. and will be disposed of at our discretion.
20. The Range Master/ Range Officer may make temporary rules in order to safely accommodate certain situations.
21. On the command, "CEASE FIRE," stop shooting immediately, no exceptions!
